International efforts to protect biodiversity and mitigate the impacts of climate have been pursued for several decades but struggled to achieve agreed targets, with potentially catastrophic impacts. As a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, the recently announced delays to the 2020 United Nations’ Climate Change and Biodiversity conferences offer a unique opportunity to combine these meetings and align policies to create coherent policy frameworks across the nexus between biodiversity, health, food, water and climate change.
