The effect of resin solids concentration, pH, coconut shell flour filler, and paraformaldehyde on the viscosity and gelation of laboratory-prepared alkaline phenolformaldehyde resins has been studied. The results are discussed in relation to the properties of alkaline phenol-formaldehyde glues when spread on wood, and to bond strength.
