A short history of observations of reproduction in female diprotodont marsupials is given. They were bred in large numbers in English menageries during the nineteenth century but systematic observations on reproduction were not begun until 1930 and successful breeding in laboratory colonies did not begin until 1950. Describes reproductive organs and reproduction in four groups.
