Abstract:

Over the next 20 years, Australia’s manufacturing industry needs to evolve into a highly integrated, collaborative and export-focused ecosystem that provides high-value customised solutions within global value chains. There are immense strategic growth opportunities for Australia’s manufacturing sector, but realising them will require significant technological innovation by public and private research communities. To adopt and realise the full potential of enabling technologies, Australian manufacturers must transform the way they run their businesses. Key to sustainable future growth will be investing in new knowledge and practices including a greater global focus, improved ability to attract and retain staff with the right skillsets, higher levels of diversity and improved collaboration with research and other businesses.
